Remember the announcement video of the Tokyo Olympics with Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe during the closing ceremony of the Rio Games (in August 21, 2016) - “cosplaying” as “Super Mario”? A new announcement sees Son Goku of “Dragonball Z”, with “Naruto” of “Naruto Shippuden”, “Luffy” from “One Piece”, “Crayon Shin Chan”, “Pretty Guardian”, “Sailor Moon”, “Yo-Kai Watch” and “Astroboy” as co-ambassadors! These are not the “Game Mascots” tho, as they are still being deliberated on … I particularly appreciate the embracing of these fictional characters as an aspect of “Japanese Culture”, perhaps also providing a connection to the “younger” set … AND also makes for good merchandising, methinks!
